I volunteered for 2 years on a distress line, until my mental health forced me to take a break.
Now I volunteer with a couple of agencies who prepare tax returns for low income individuals, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill, addicted, or living in abject poverty, so that they can get access to all the gov't programs that they are entitled to.
Even though my income is really low, I donate to a charity that helps homeless kids.
