As I've aged my swearing has really been curtailed. It just sounds crude to me...though I will swear if I hit my finger with a hammer, or something. There's no excuse, however, for taking the kind of verbal abuse you're describing. If your brother ever does engage in physical abuse, call the freakin' cops! His future girlfriend or wife will thank you. Folks who engage in physical abuse when they're young often display that kind of disgusting behavior when they get older. Actually, the kind of verbal abuse you describe can hurt as much as physical abuse (except in a different way). So, no...You're not odd. I hope your situation improves soon.
