I was having this very discussion with someone the other day. I don't recall who. When the kids were small, hubby worked in a mine and was gone for 14 hours out of the day. I got up, snowblowed the driveway, showered, got ready for work (including hairstyle and makeup), threw dinner in the slow cooker and filled the bread machine, and got the kids ready for school and day care. We lived in Northern Michigan at the time, and I had to carry a shovel in the trunk to shovel out snow banks from the snow plows on the main roads. I worked about 15 miles from where I lived, but I'd have to leave an hour early to make it to work on time, in the winter.

I look back now at the conditions that I drove through, DROVE THROUGH WITH MY KIDS, and wonder what was I thinking.
