Is this therapist licensed? Maybe all they have is their Masters in counseling. Are they young to the profession? I do not think experienced practitioners would say such things. If they are young, this person needs to go back to school. He obviously missed some classes. If they are experienced, IMO they should stay involved with aspects of psychology that they know best, which apparently does not include being a good diagnostician. They need to leave the diagnosis to the pdoc. However, this lack of judgement on their part should motivate you into finding another therapist.
