When I was first diagnosed with BP1 I was in denial for a really long time. My denial was exacerbated by having a T that didn’t “believe in using labels.”
My pdoc actually spoke to my T and told my T that for me to to get well I needed to hear from my T about techniques to “manage Bipolar 1”. Having a T who didn’t acknowledge my diagnosis was not good.
With my 2nd T: when again the “I don’t believe in labels” phrase was used I told them that if they weren’t capable of acknowledging my diagnosis that we would not be working together. That shut them up pretty quick.
