(((((jacq10))))) I’m so sorry, I have your issue with dr’s but that policy has been in place for a long time. It’s very frustrating for a variety of reasons. My hometown is located about 15 miles from a great hospital and 12 from an awful hospital. Depending upon where you live in town, the good one might be closer, The majority of town’s people choose the good one, even though it’s in another state.
For many years, when the ambulance was called, you could say that you wanted to go to x or y. The crappy hospital has a new administrator, a lawyer, and there is a law on the books stating that you have to go to the nearest in state hospital to be stabilized. You no longer have a choice! The ambulance is legally obligated to bring you to the crappy hospital.
The crappy hospital gave my father pain killers and muscle relaxants and sent him home during a massive heart attack. The list of horror stories could be pages long. I worked as a CENA in a long term care facility and saw so many awful things when our residents went to the crappy hospital!
I think it’s so that good drs aren’t flooded and the bad ones don’t have any patients. When my grandmother needed er surgery, the hospital wouldn’t even tell us if there was a surgeon on duty or if he was only on call. Drove her to the good hospital!
