hi. tranquilizers/antipsychotics tend to cause weight gain, old and new. its worse with the 'atypicals,' and seroquel can be a real weight gaining medication. having said that...

its not as bad (in group level studies) as clozapine or zyprexa. some doctors prescribe metformin w/ seroquel and some other psych drugs, to reduce weight gain and keep the long term risk of metabolic disorders as low as possible.

i read some 'alternative health' stuff where some strong antioxidants--green tea extract, alpha lipoic acid--were used at fairly high doses alongside 'atypical' tranquilizer treatment. there was less weight gain and I think the EPS and akathisia scores in the antioxidant group were lower, too. always a good thing.
