Yes anxiety is very powerful and can mask all other emotions and it is very distressing.
I don't know if this is the case for you, but sometimes we are scared of our own anger, and instead of expressing the anger, it is internalized and all we get is a heap load of anxiety.
If the anxiety is really too much it might be a good idea to get some meds to take the edge off it. And look into finding a therapist to help you cope with this.
