Just reading this forum, I am not sure that the people who self-admittedly have avoidant tendencies (including myself) desire that type of therapist. For me, a T who overly tried to connect with me emotionally mostly just provoked increased avoidance. Intelligent, well-informed and realistic with good boundaries is a much better match. Maybe for the ambivalent style the firm, consistent and boundaried is a good fit - again, just reading this forum.
