The Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön has book in print titled: Comfortable With Uncertainty. (It's one of a number of fine books she has written.) The premise is that we can never be certain about anything. Every moment is new. And change is the only constant. So we have to learn to live with not ever being able to be certain about anything.

Of course, I don't know anything about your situation. So I can't say anything specific with regard to your concerns. But for most of us, especially in the developed countries of the world, we can be reasonably sure no one is out to destroy us in particular. And, unless there is some particular reason why someone would want to take your cats away (such as you live in an apartment where pets are not allowed) I would imagine there would be no reason why someone would want to take away your kitties. As a result, unless there are some particular circumstances you're concerned about, I'd say chances are you're probably safe. I wish you well...
