around here there can be snow on the ground from october to early may, though most is melted by then! mother nature keeps throwing curve-balls every single frickin' year!!! a couple years ago, the farmers around here couldn't even finish harvesting before the first snow came, and that storm dropped like fifteen inches!
and it's funny to read that previous comment -> cuz my cousin lives in minn and i've heard it said that "in Minnesota if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes!" 
p.s. there's a new big snowstorm on the west US/Canada coast and about to make its way eastward......
