I think the definitions are key to understanding the difference:
Guilt- feeling bad about something you have done. (That was a stupud thing I did)
Shame- saying you are a bad person because of something wrong you have done. (I'm stupid because I did....)
I had a hard time understanding the difference before nailing down the definitions
