Mad in America radio had an interview with Johann Hari, I agree with some of the comments there. The book doesn't seem to talk about things that I didn't already know. I've also been checking book promotional interviews on youtube, Joe Rogan had kinda bad reaction to Johann, thought that was interesting. I was also on this book promotion website of his, I didn't like the names of endorsements I was reading. There was also something called 'How to Academy' on youtube, I wasn't impressed there either. He's a world renowned journalist? I'm not familiar with his career. Social sciences and psychology, research literatures in both filed can be interpreted with many many biases that I haven't learned yet, unless some of the researches/researchers come up in some other places that I trust, I don't buy into this person's narrative.

He's controversial. Good for him for getting back reputation in his career, media's loving the upheaval in the mental health industry. Book like this doesn't help acute cases of depression, does it? ( I haven't read the book nor the reviews.) The psychosocial, economic and occupational factors have grave impact on depressed person's wellbeing, newsflash! No it ain't. The way he talks about the book wasn't nice, "oh this is so psychological this way and that way", seriously, other self-help books covers these sort of topics, why does anyone need his book?

I think there's too much political pressure on him, thanks for introducing this book though. Does anyone know a good website that we could check sales figures worldwide? That'd be some numbers that I can trust. It took some investigative work for him, right? If he's focusing on that part, maybe the book has some worth.

'Keep calm and carry on', maybe this is autobiographical of the author. He doesn't strike me as a person that makes me want to rewind and watch/listen again and again. He seems to lack the integrity of good journalism of the bygone era. I think I'm gonna check more on his past work, namely the famous TED addiction talk of his. L-Lost Connections? Who's the publisher? Whoever said I ever lost my connections? And I'm no Elton John fan, thank you, thank you though.

.....So I came back from watching his new addiction theory story. He was standing in this studio standing on the red circle like a comedian, he's a good orator. This one psychiatry defender's blog was on point, this guy doesn't have the same sort of science as bio-psychiatry does, I was 8 mins in on this 14 mins talk, and wonder if he ever talks about neuroscience and stuff? He's not facing those medical people, and they are getting offended, they write their opinion in their own journals and then what?

There's a brain and a checklists on the other,

Quote:
Johann Hari's Lost Connections has attracted considerable attention, much of it because of the dual claims he makes in its subtitle: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression–and the Unexpected Solutions. Unfortunately, the book is neither revelatory about the “real causes” of depression nor about its “solutions”, which will come as no surprise to anyone who treats patients with this pervasive and often devastating illness. ...
There's this one big story he tells himself, his career and reputation is on the line. He's really overcompensating, isn't he? He's not gonna do brain research for us, he is fallible and unfalsifiable in his claim. Indirect informations are always bad for me, soon, Oprah would be talking about it, maybe she already has....
