I've always been bullied & always been easily bullied. I also always assumed it was because I was weird & "dumb" & VERY easily taken advantage of. IOW, the fault was in me, not in the bullies. I know better now, but it doesn't help the feelings of paranoia (remember, it's not paranoia if they really are out to get you) & it's still remarkably easy for "mean people" to take advantage of me. Mostly, at my age, I hope I'm better at choosing whom to hang out with, but when it's a job that's not always an option. I worked at the USPS for years, & despite all the hype they put out about no tolerance for workplace discrimination or abuse, I can't imagine a worse place for someone w/ASD. But, that was that particular small, rural post office. When I first began that job it was at a different office in a different town, & I absolutely loved it there. Worked with great people who had great senses of humor. I doubled over with laughter at least a few times every morning. My mistake was transferring to be closer to home. So... I guess right there, that shows it isn't necessarily the ASD that causes the bullying, but the people who make the decision to be bullies.
