From what I have obeserved, usually when things start to go downhill like that, they continue to get worse rather than better. So, it sounds like you did the right thing. It seems like you gave the decision some thought and you have savings, so who cares what your parents think? They don't have to go deal with that terrible work environment every day.

I too left a very toxic job situation. I have heard that since I left things have gotten even worse. He has cut people's pay and is paying late as well and still verbally abusing people. So, it ended up working out for the best. I found another job with better pay and treatment. It's far from perfect, but still a big improvement. I have good benefits and got a small raise after completing a year last month.
