This is a really poor attitude to have. You owe it to your father to do something anyway. It is a matter of common courtesy and etiquette. It is the right thing to do.

Before I sign off on this thread I will leave you with some things to ponder. In my book they are quite serious considerations.

When someone gets car rides from someone else, the commonly recognised action is to pay gas money in return. This is the way things are done and it is considered quite rude to fail to do so. It is up to the driver whether or not they accept the offer.

Consider this. It is no different than your present situation. Again, offer something up to your father. It is for him to decide if he will accept it.

I've made it really quite apparent my frustration with this give me expectation and attitude. I can tell you I wouldn't tolerate this from my own adult children. Enough said.
