Not at all! I've had ECT treatments in the past to address depressive episodes so severe, that I was barely eating. It was the only treatment that worked at the time, I had tried countless medications and therapy before.

There was some temporary memory loss and temporary lessening of cognitive function (it was harder to remember what I was reading, for example), but they did pass. There are some things I completely forget and will never get back, fortunately they are not important memories.

The procedure is very safe. You are put to sleep and they induce a small seizure in a very controlled environment.

If I had to choose between being stuck at rock bottom and doing ECT again, I would choose ECT in a heartbeat. It is a shame you have such an ancient view of a treatment that has saved many lives. It is certainly not like the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
