Go for the LTD. It's not super hard to get approved, I had it through MetLife, and if you get it approved, if you need SSDI, it will be much easier to get on the first try (I speak from experience). And if you decide to go back to work, you can. But at least the option is there. Don't wait until you can't get it anymore, like losing your job or something.
