Anti-depressants turn me manic. Though I was on Zoloft before I got the official BP diagnosis. I was taking it for post-partum depression (though I suppose it could have been bipolar, who knows?). I was nursing my daughter, and at the time, they felt it was safe to breastfeed on it (I think now they don't want you breastfeeding on any psych meds). But anyway, I don't remember that it did much for me. My pdoc switched me to Cymbalta; I did OK on that for awhile until I showed up for an appointment with severe mania.

My pdoc occasionally put me on ADs, but only short term. She pointed out that any time I'm on them longer than 3 months or so, mania results.
