Although I guess my listening skills in Spanish are on par with French, especially in more obscure dialects... So I started learning Spanish before I was 25, which is often invoked as a magic number. But also with Spanish is when I was the most focused in my use of flash cards...

I guess it's not so much a mystery after all. Still, what I'd really like to know is what the deciding factor was. Because if it's age... That would really suck. And would mean that I could never master any other language at the same level as English... Which is kind of, well, I'm turning 30 in a couple of months, might as well retire (which isn't an option, but) since my brain is useless.
I started learning Spanish at 16, but didn't continue on after highschool so I didn't retain any of it. I'm 26 now, and just now making another attempt at learning a language, I'm just hoping I'm not too old, the age thing kind of scares me, like they make it seem like after a certain age that it is impossible to learn a new language. It may be harder the older you get, but I don't feel like it's completely impossible especially if you're invested in learning the language you choose to learn. I mean I go back and forth between feeling like I can't learn German to I feel like I can learn it, that it'll take a few years to get to a decent level of understanding it. I mean if anything it's good exercise for the brain.
