I have a success story. For many years, I was off and on meds and the meds I was taking would help for a short period of time before pooping out and then I would think, "what's the point of even taking meds?" This year I got really depressed while off my meds and contacted my pdoc in desperation, even willing to try ECT again. We decided to try a new med, while waiting for the ECT consult, and it's working wonders for me. We eventually needed to reintroduce a mood stabilizer, since it was an anti-depressant. I'm functioning now; I'm living in my condo again, rather than with my parents, and I'm going back to work tomorrow after being on sick leave for months. I have been unwell for years, perhaps over a decade, and I'm finally stable. Fingers crossed it will last. There is hope.

It is said an Eastern monarch once charged his wise men to invent him a sentence, to be ever in view, and which should be true and appropriate in all times and situations. They presented him the words: "And this, too, shall pass away." How much it expresses! How chastening in the hour of pride! How consoling in the depths of affliction!
