I told my mom that she was verbally abusing me during a fight because she was saying mean, hurtful, awful things that had nothing to do with the reason for the fight. I think I hit a nerve, I was really just stating it as a fact not trying to get at her because I had told her to stop numerous times. We haven't fought since, but I really hope she stops being so disrespectful. She's been that way since I was young, but it took me all these years to speak up about it.

I told my therapist what I said. She asked a few questions, and said I handled it well that it seems I am using my dbt skills. Which I am finding quite helpful. I have said they give me a voice, they help me to speak my mind in a way that's understood. She said I used the one about self respect. Dear Fast. I need that skill a lot, I'm very disrespected in my family since I'm the one that "cracked". I used to be respected by my younger brother but not anymore. Dbt is helping me regain some of that back in a healthy way.

I really recommend it for anyone who gets the opportunity to take dbt therapy. It's teaching me a lot of skills, and it's helping me make better decisions. I would have run off with my ex and been married by now soon to be on divorce #4. DBT is really a life saver. It's not easy following wise mind but I'm glad I've learned about it.
