I'm sort of messy but I have a *system*. So don't mess with it! . I know where everything is - the bills, my wallet, my keys, and anything else important. My wife generally sweeps everything into a drawer and it's major point of contention in our marriage. She's an orderly person by nature. She's Italian and grew up in a household that was always clean, presentable, and ready-to-show. I grew up in an Irish household where everything was chaos and no one really knew the time much less where we were going or when we needed to be there.

Oh did I mention the heat? As a sidebar, we didn't have heat in my house.....well we did, but my dad never turned it on. "Turn down the heat, whaddya think I'm heating closets? My shoelaces are melting!" Her house was always somewhere in the neighborhood of 94. So my wife and I have thermostat battles too......but that's a story for another day.
