So this has become so ingrained in us that we don't realize we're doing it, to outsiders it seems weird and grammatically incorrect. I'm guilty of doing it verbally (I don't do this in writing), it's most common when saying the name of stores or restaurants. Its a weird little thing that is unique to Michigan, just like we call soda "pop" for some reason.
