I have recalled the name of a book you might consider starting with. It's called Drawing Down the Moon. It's essentially a history of paganism, wicca, and other goddess paths.

Also, here's a photo you might find interesting. It was taken at a Wiccan handfasting (wedding) I attended a few years ago; the photo is at the time of the actual hadnfasting. The ceremony was absolutely lovely, located in the large backyard of a witch. The yard was filled with all sorts of symbolic gardens, shrines, and statuary.
