I have always been a very shy person who has had anxiety over talking to strangers, calling people over the phone, public speaking, etc... But over the past year, the anxiety has gotten worse. I am in college and am trying to find a job/internship and have had a few interviews which did not go well because I was so anxiety ridden I could barely think. I had a phone interview a few days ago and I cried before and after because the anxiety was so bad. My psychiatrist prescribed me ativan to take whenever I have severe anxiety attacks but I only took it twice because it caused me to become really tired and it caused severe brain fog. I've tried meditation, deep breathing, and herbal supplements to try to calm myself down but nothing is working. This is a huge issue for me because if I don't overcome the anxiety, I will not be successful in finding an internship opportunity and getting accepted into graduate school.

A lot of the anxiety has to do with brain fog and the inability to answer simple questions. I started having cognitive problems after overdosing (last summer) on psychiatric medications. I cannot think clearly anymore, which definitely makes the anxiety worse.

So, my questions are:
1. How do I decrease this anxiety? Is there a medication that has actually worked for people?
2. How can I increase my cognitive functioning and be able to think clearly?
