I once had a boss who was a total jerk. He actually started one of my performance appraisals by saying "Everybody hates you." I got up, said "You're obviously not prepared for this meeting, I'll respond in writing to HR."
Karma won out, I finished my MBA a few months later, and was promoted into a position in the company that was working on restructuring, and one of the things I was deciding was whether or not he'd keep his job.
