I had some memory issues on 300 mg Lamictal many years ago, but don't think I forgot anything major. Now I don't think my meds affect my memory much at all, if at all. I'm on a high dose of Tegretol XR, a small dose of Lamictal, and a medium dose of Seroquel XR.
I believe it is my bipolar disorder that affects my attention nowadays on occasion (creates absent-mindedness), and that meds are not the main culprits. I think that because I had occasional issues like this even before medications. When a little elevated I live in my mind and focus on things intensely to the detriment of other things. Often my thoughts race, which is a common symptom of hypomania and mania. The worst thing I forgot in a hypomanic state was my pocket book. When I was putting the grocery cart back in the stall, I left my pocket book in it. I had my keys in my hand, so I went back to my car and drove home without it. Almost one hour later my brother, who lives with my dad, called my land line phone and said a man called him and said the grocery store customer service has my pocket book. Apparently a male customer brought my pocket book to the customer service. First he found my cell phone and found "Dad" in the contact list and thought him a safe person to call. That was way back before I had a pass code/finger print security for my phone. It was probably an old flip phone. LOL! Anyway, my brother called me and I went back to the store for my pocket book. The man left my brother his cellphone number so I called him to thank him.
When I've been full blown manic, sometimes I have what I call manic blackouts. I can only recall maybe 5 or 6 of my 10 psychiatric hospitalizations.
