I've had two psychiatrists tell me that my short-term memory loss is due to a combination of meds and brain damage caused by repeated bipolar episodes. I was afraid I was developing dementia. I can quote you the lyrics from a song that came out in 1975 but can't tell you what I ate for lunch, or even if I ate lunch at all. Drives me crazy!
