She's fine. The fire department will sort out the leak okay. What an interesting and odd session for you, Dustin!
I remember when I was 10 and in my house alone in Norfolk, Virginia. I was playing out front with a friend after school and she went home to get something to eat and I went in my house to do the same (wasn't allowed to have someone inside when I was alone). The house felt really really weird! I started looking behind doors and chairs, I swear it felt like someone was there, just and ESP thing. Finally I opened the door to the little furnace room, it was a concrete-floored utility room, maybe 12 x 12 feet down, 2-3 steps (can't have a "basement" in Norfolk, the water table is too high) and the entire floor was covered in heating oil! I didn't know what to do, I was terrified! My mother was out shopping and who knew where my older brothers all were? I went back out front and just stood there, trying to figure out what to do, and my girlfriend finally came back and I told her and she was better, asked me what neighbor we should tell and she went with me across the street to where a pretty young woman and her toddler's lived (behind a white picket fence, even :-) and we went to the door but I was crying too hard so my friend had to tell her what she knew from what I'd told her and the woman called the fire department. They were there and mopping it up, etc. when my mother came home and everyone was thrilled with me for a little while. My father said half the house would have blown up if the still-lit pilot light had touched the oil.
But most fuels don't smell much (especially gas) so they put a smell in them so they will which is what your T's daughter smelled. So your T and her family are plenty safe.
