A psychologist can diagnose PTSD. I got SSDI with backup from a therapist/psychologist, not a pdoc. Although I have been diagnosed by both psychiatrists and psychologists.
I first received my diagnosis after having been previously diagnosed with panic disorder. My first T believed it was panic disorder because the panic attacks were the most prevalent symptom. When I moved and switched to my T/psychologist, he discovered it was really PTSD. So that's how I got my Dx initially.

Secondary Dx: Generalized Anxiety Disorder with mild Agoraphobia.
