There's something about a vacuum for me, unless I'm the one using it (even then I become hypervigilant). Banging and slamming also mess with me, too. There are others too, but out of all of the noises this world can make, it's the sound of twigs snapping underneath a boot that can completely send me over the edge.

Silence is worse a lot of the time. There's something about it that makes me convinced something's about to happen. So, I play music a lot, nearly constantly. A fan can make me hear different things, too, but I'm nearly always "hearing" something and have just gotten used to it.

When I'm shaken up, I go to something newish around the house, usually no more than a year old, and I just stare at it. While I'm looking, I remember how it got there and why it had to happen. Seeing something modern keeps me grounded and lets me know that it isn't the past anymore. I'm here and I'm "safe". Never truly feel safe, but hey, I get what I can.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Anything you do to keep you grounded and present?
