I guess I just don't understand how this psychologist can with certainty diagnose someone with it in such a short amount of time. How would they even know whether a person is experiencing a different illness if they havent met them befote, haven't had time to observe them and are basing it on what they are being told? Many times ppl may think they have something but it turns out they are way off.
I am just concerned not judging. And as I said I hope this psychologist works out for you.

I agree with what RubyRae says. diagnosing DID usually takes more than a few hours. yes there is a self reporting section to diagnosing where the person with it tells the psychiatrist/ psychologist what their symptoms are but thats a very small part of the diagnosis process for DID..
If someone diagnosed me with DID in just a 3 and a half hour interview I would be asking them all kinds of questions like their qualifications, which interview tests they performed, (theres lots of them that cant be found online, if they quote one online be very very leary, the ones online dont include the versions that just came out.)
let me give you an example of what happens here where I am for diagnosing DID....
first the person is referred to their medical doctor, all kinds of medical tests are done to make sure the hearing voices, loss of time, switching , memory problems are not any medical, or neurological problems. and that the problem isnt because of seizure disorders, meds, drugs and alcohol.... all kinds of stuff. this part of the diagnostic process can take months because it takes time to schedule all the tests.
when all the physical stuff is taken care of theres the psych testing that includes computerized tests (no you dont do them on the computer, you fill in the circles then they send the test to a computer scoring company, then the computerized scoring company sends it back sometimes weeks after the psych testing is done.
theres also academic tests (math, history, and so on) to make sure the problems/ symptoms are not learning disorders. some are written some are oral some you have to use the props that they give you to complete the test.
there is also a personal history section where they most times ask for your school and medical records to see if you have a life time history of the problems.
theres more but this is just a quick example of how treatment providers in my city diagnosed DID. it usually takes anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 months or more to get all the testing done depending upon what your answers are and can be longer too.
so yea I would be extremely uncomfortable being diagnosed with DID with just a 3 and a half hour interview by a stranger who just met me the appointment of the diagnosing.
please be careful. suggestion .... ask lots and lots of questions about how and why this person diagnosed you the way they did and maybe get a second opinion just in case.
not trying to get you out of the diagnosis, just that how this person did it sounds very very fishy / strange and unreliable to me.
