I think there would be a difference between whether anyone would "notice" and whether they'd necessarily comment?

Have you written your friend and said you miss them? Some people "dump" others but it doesn't look that way to them. Sometimes it helps if we say, "Hey, come back and dump me right!" :-) so we know what's "happening" for sure.
