I run into this problem with overly high expectations too. One way I have of dealing with this is researching everything before I make a purchase including spending a great deal of time reading reviews. I also do side by side comparisons. This goes for the aniticipated service experience too.

I am sorry this experience you have had is a bummer. Make sure you look up the customer satisfaction policy and return period. There should be a period of time you have to make a final decision on the product. Make sure you follow-up this unsatsifactory installation experience too. Contact someone in person and demand their attention and follow-up. Take pictures of the damage and send it to them.

By the way, I have worked in a kitchens operation and sold appliances. Most people aren't aware that Whirlpool makes virtually every label's product for them so there isn't a great deal of difference from brand to brand. My own dishwasher runs by the way for two hours.
