I will pick a seat not next to anyone as my first choice.

If that is not an option then I will take the nearest available seat. If the person I end up sitting next to is obnoxious in any way I will look around for another available seat or just totally not engage at all with them.

Transportation is not about who you sit next to it's about getting to where you are going.
