I received a phone today from my sister two years younger than me. Last time I spoke to her was 2014. We are friends on FB and each year she will post a long happy birthday message saying how much she misses me and loves me. We did not have a fight or argument. She has mood swings and was trying to deal with it by smoking weed.
Back in 2013 I offered to go with her to get an assessment. She flaked out. So today she called and invited me to a surprise birthday party for her husband. I wrote down the information. Then she unloaded on me. She said, she had only been getting like four hours of sleep. That her job paid real good but it was to much for her to handle. That her husband thinks she should be able to work two double shifts and come home and cook dinner while he plays video games. Her husband has a pretty good paying job he’s just an ******hole. But she knew that from the start. She works as a manager at a diner. And she mostly works graveyard because she likes that best. Then she went on to say that she knew something was wrong with her but she had never been diagnosed. She said, she was on antidepressants.
She was saying how she did not grow up with supportive family. We have the same father different mothers. I did not wear my social worker hat during this call. I simply listened and told her I hope things get better. See what someone is not going to do is call me years out the blue and expect me to sympathize with them. What she said did not make sense. What doctor would start someone on a antidepressants without diagnosing them with something first. She is in denial so bad. I have BP1, the third born sister was diagnosed BP1 at 18 and our baby sister has BP2. The sister that called me I’m positive she has BP2. My daughter K called and I told her and the call. She said that her aunt T had told that she had bipolar. K asked me not to be so hard on T. I explained to her. I am a person and I have feelings. It’s not fair that some comes in and out my life. I would not let a man do it and I’m not going to let family do it either. K understood. We decided to go to the surprise party together and if we do not hear from my sister T again oh well.
