Several years ago now I recall watching a video on YouTube, uploaded by gender therapist Dara Hoffman-Fox. The details are fuzzy now.

But in the video Dara said something about helping clients to arrive at
their answer regarding how they came to the conclusion they were transgender. I recall commenting that it sounded to me, from what she said, that it didn't really matter if what the person came up with was factually true. What mattered was that the story satisfied the client. And, as I recall, Dara said yes that is true. As it says in this article: "Feeling that you know yourself creates a strong sense of meaning in life- whether or not you actually know yourself doesn't make a difference."
