NP- That is rude of the neighbors. I mean, if their intent was to be helpful, asking if you need help is the way to start, not heading to your yard with a shovel.
Do you know what kind of battery you need? If you're not up for calling a service (is there a service that you can call and pay over the phone?), maybe buying new batteries would be easier than facing the garage.
