There is a wonderful self help resource at
CFIDS & Fibromyaliga Self-Help. I've taken the online course and participate in discussion groups. Very well organized and so supportive. You can also find lots of resources at the site.
I'm younger than you and I have fibromyalgia. Some children even have it. And just because some doctors have whatever opinions doesn't mean that you aren't experiencing what you are experiencing.
A good summary at:
http://www.aafp.org/afp/20070715/247.html
I also find lots of help through my public library, look for books on fibromyalgia, wide array to choose from. Some even talk over how to deal with difficult family members. Also check on chronic pain books that include info on fibromyalgia.
No one should be mean to you.

Do you have a good therapist? That might be good support in learning how to deal with people treating you badly. You don't deserve cruelty.
I hope I don't sound too harsh here

I just really feel for you and feel protective of anyone going through chronic pain.
