I don't usually come to this forum, but am extra bored tonight, so here I am to play deep discussion time with you. :L

It first needs to start with better mental health awareness. We still live in a world where too many people see mental health completely differently than physical health. "It's just an excuse", "just get over it", "you're being dramatic", etc. Until mental health is seen for what it is, debilitating, it won't be taken seriously enough to have much done about it, and definitely not "banning" people from socializing with the rest of society like you would on a forum or something.

That said, at least here in the US, there are some efforts to stop mental abuse popping up here and there. School shootings are forcing people to recognize mental illness as something very real, but in a horrible way. The people who abuse the shooters are just as guilty as the ones pulling the trigger in my mind. Still, not enough is being done about it. People only seem to really care when abuse becomes physical as well, but I'd argue the emotional scars hurt much worse. It's why I hate the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". It's so wrong, but so many people believe just that - that words should never hurt you and you're meant to just brush them off and you're weak if you let them hurt you. If only it were that easy...

As for a safe-space network and banning people from such a thing, is that not what jail is for currently? Right now not enough people care to send a non-physical abuser to jail, though of course I'd agree that's perfectly reasonable. I sense you're proposing something more wild though - something you'd read in a novel about a utopia perhaps. Keep the good within this utopia and kick the bads out. It's an interesting theory, but practically I don't think something of that sort of extreme would ever work. There's too many corrupt people on power for one who either don't care or are abusers themselves, then you'd have complications of possibly banning innocent people to this horrible non-utopian world, and maybe even going too far in deciding if something was ban-able. Too many bads and they could form their own society and fight the goods, so yet another reason to war. I could probably think of more reasons why it's not practical if it wasn't 2:30am, but hopefully you get the picture.

Also note that I missed part 1 of the discussion entirely so I apologize if I'm just repeating what some might have already said. It's too late in the day for me to go reading long threads with deep thinking required. This is my last post for the night. :p Wore me out.

tl;dr? More needs to be done about abuse in any form.
