Can you work out or something after therapy? I guess this is along the lines of the not going home straight away strategy. If you are able to chill out at Starbucks or Borders (maybe read something or whatever) then that could be a good way of doing it. If that isn't working out so well (because you can't chill) then working out could be a good strategy for dealing. Maybe something cardio (to get out some of that emotional energy) or something relaxing that is class based (like yoga).
He could make his own dinner... Or you could prepare something in advance that is easy enough to compile upon your return (stew, lasagne, soup, salad etc).
