I do this endlessly. I just can't let it go.  The technique I use is what is referred to as "compassionate abiding". Perhaps you're familiar with it? It's not a cure. Nothing is going to make those thoughts go away... at least not in my experience.  But it is a way of coping with them since they're going to be there anyway.
