Hi steph and welcome to pc.... I had PPD but it wasn't diagnosed until after the fact when other mental health issues kicked in.
It's good you have been diagnosed early and can begin right away to get the support and treatment you need to get through. Early intervention can spare you flaring up additional problems with depression. Rally as much support as you can and don't hesitate to give yourself the breaks you need. It will pass but only if you take proper care. Least that's what I've witnessed and experienced.
I went for untreated PPD which triggered symptoms of bi-polar depression and post traumatic stress panic and anxiety issues. Then I discovered I had a thyroid condition and suffered several minor strokes before I got help. Then menopause hit and I refused hormone replacement therapy. So there I was.... hormones raging all over the place and no treatment. So It was a 'hell' of a decade.
I'm certain if I'd had proper care at the time the PPD set in then I might have prevented the serious collapse 10 years later and all the horrors people had to put up with living with me in those years.... and the years that I robbed from my son because of my inability to be the mother he needed me to be. We are very close today and as I recover he thrives more and more.
Above all.... take good care of you. The best gift you can give your child is a healthy, happy you.
I've no doubt you will find some very supportive women around here who can understand what you are dealling with and can remind you it will be okay.
We are here to listen and to help pick you up when you need the love and support.
