Hope tonight brings more restful sleep.

When I can't sleep, or if I wake up in the middle of the night & can't get back to sleep, I will get up & do walking meditation. We live in a one-level townhome. So I'll walk from front to back around-&-around our dark & quiet unit, sometimes for an hour or more. I focus light attention on each foot as it makes contact with the floor. I hear the sounds of the city in the distance.
Thoughts come-&-go. I just let them arise-&-fade at their own pace. (If a troublesome thought arises & won't leave, I'll breathe into it & smile to it. I may even place a hand over my heart as a sign of lovingkindness & compassion for it.)

Typically, once I do go back to bed, I'm able to go back to sleep.

I like this so much that when I haven't done it for a while I start to miss it.
