Yes, this is the main difference between laptops and notebooks. Notebooks generally come with centrino which runs cooler and doesn't produce the ill effects that heat does to electronics. Even so, it's best to not block the fan below, and use a flat surface or even a specially created lap pad holder that dips in the middle for extra cooling.
