I've got a couple of alters that have put me in dangerous situations. In fact, one has been in charge a lot lately. I can sometimes have another part come alongside and convince the harming one to go easy. When that sort of thing is going on, I try to ask the part what she needs and where she hurts. All of my parts hold some difficult memories, working to understand them seems to help with the acting out.

As far as hospitalization, no. I would add, though, that there have been a couple of times where I had to summon a convincing part to talk to authorities to convince them I was not suicidal. Which might have been a lie. I would think if a harmful part was in charge, you might get involuntarily committed.
