Not to be negative, but it didn't work out for me—neither did Seroquel for that matter.
I was too sedated on latuda. It didn't fix or improve any wonky brain chemistry I had going on, either. It just made me so tired that I couldn't give a f*** about anything. Anxious? Too tired to care. Roll over and back to sleep. Suicidal thoughts? "I really hate mysel--- Zzzz... *snore*..."
So I guess you can say it "kept me safe," but for all the wrong reasons. I think it's one of those you love it or hate it drugs. Some people absolutely love it and call it a lifesaver, while people like me don't benefit from it.
But either way, I think you should give it 7-14 days to see if you're experiencing any improvement. I think 7-14 days is the general rule of thumb for all APs. Though, sometimes latuda can make people more depressed, so be mindful of that. Seroquel XR made me severely depressed when we upped my dose to 250mg, and I noticed that within 2 days (it was like I slammed into a wall), so it was pretty fast. And thankfully the depression went away when I stopped taking it. So, if you notice a rapid worsening of symptoms within a few days, tell your pdoc asap. Could be the med at fault or maybe you're just naturally worsening.
