I think I am understanding that although you are usually straight forward, addressing this with your daughter whom you haven't seen in a while is like walking a tight rope. How to talk without being confrontational? How to raise concern and open dialogue? Getting her to open up to you is perhaps my biggest piece of advice-not to say she might not but if you keep that door open it's back in her court.

I found this article that has some advice, albeit reading it gives me the impression of when the child is a minor and under the same roof, but the suggestions are for compassion.
