I narrowly escaped death by skull fragments embedded in my brain after plunging from my wheelchair, left eye socket first, into the front concrete drive. It was bloody well bloody and I was unconscious for some time. I had the sense to push the button on my panic pendant as I went in and out of consciousness.
Apparently my long-dormant epilepsy has returned. I need to schedule surgery soon. My blackouts are between 5-to-15 seconds.
And a number of bad things followed my fall.
After the EMTs arrived they began to ask me questions to evaluate my state of brain. I answered each question the same: “Mind The Gap.” I believe that I thought others needed the warning. I had surgery to remove bone fragments from my brain and was in ICU for two nights. Afterwards I was in a ‘regular’ hospital wing but I could not stop with “Mind The Gap” and I was sent to the psych ward after 3-4 nights. I was full-blown delusional and —>stuck<—.
So there. Really bad plunge (for those who don’t know, I lost my legs in 2006 and I am top-heavy with no balancing limbs... I found my wheelchair tools but can’t find the seatbelt for my chair), serious injuries, mad as any tanner (I don’t know that tanners are any madder than the average bloke), delusional for some time, put on the psych floor, and I only arrived home on the 5th.
While my face still displays the fury of my fall I’m getting better.
I know that others are minding the gap without my input.
But the most horrendous thing happened Friday afternoon — and I’ll write of it in the psychotherapy forum.
Thanks to all who PMed with concern. I had no i-devices with me.
Off to another forum.
